WELCOME!

Welcome to my Photography, Design, and Everything Else blog. I am a photographer for fun (meaning I don't know too much of what I am doing) and an aspiring graphic design artist. I have always been somewhat interested in photography but really started getting more into it after I had my son. Last Christmas I got my first Sony SLR Camera and the world of photography hasn't been the same since. I still don't know too much but the fact that I can now take some clear pictures works good enough for me. Upon following a few photography blogs I started to realize that even if you don't take a perfect photo, you can create one through photo editing. DUH! I started to become interested and learning new things through video tutorials. This re-sparked a interest I always had for graphic design. I dont have much time to go back to school right now so I have been self-teaching myself as much as I can. Since then I have begun to make flyers, business cards, and magazine ads for the store/dispensery 4ever20. I started this blog as a way to share some of my work with the world and so you can follow along on my learning journey to not only become a better photographer but graphic design artist as well. Along the way I will also be sharing whatever else I think I need to at the time. ENJOY!

Izabella

After I edited the picture for Fix-It-Friday I got really inspired design another background. My friend Robin came to visit recently and I got some adorable shots of her daughter Izbella, which I decided to use for this project.

The BEFORE picture was just a picture I took of her while Robin was trying to burp her after a feeding. She kept looking at me with these cute faces so I had to catch the moment.

For the AFTER picture I first extracted Izabella away from the background including mommy's hand. I then needed to figure out what to do in place of mommy's hand. If I were really good I could make it as if she were wrapped in silk blanket or something but I'm not so I had to do what I could. I used a "grass" brush and just draged along over and over to make it look like she was wrapped in some sort of furry blanket and or something. Not as realistic as I would have liked but i'm still learning. I then used to "floral" brushes again to create the flowers and trees in the background. There was also a "leaf" brush I used as well. I then wrote the word LOVE on one side and used the "Chinese Symbols" brush to put the character for love. After I finished that I flattened the image and used the "Perfect Portrait" action I got from CoffeeShop which allowed me to soften Izabella's skin, bring out her eyes, and make the love and character stand out from the background.

I love the final product and I sent it to my friend for her to keep.

Fix-It-Friday: Beauty

>> Friday, August 28, 2009

So I have never really done a fix-it-friday before! I am excited to enter. I wasn't even going to enter, I was just going to play around with the picture and see what I can do since I consider myself pretty ameture when it comes to photo editing. I have learned everything i know so far by watching tutorials on youtube.com

Fix-It-Fridays are all about photo editing. Iheartsfaces.com will post a BEFORE picture and a few contributers will share a few different ways they decided to edit the picture. If you are just someone browsing or following the site, you are also welcome to share your editing skills. Well hopefully someone enjoys mine as much as I do this week.

This is the before picture of a beautiful little girl. Upon looking at this picture I immediately thought wedding. I wasnt sure what I wanted to do with the girl yet but I knew I wanted to mess around with the background.

Newho, I downloaded a bunch of new brushes, thanks to the resource page on I ♥ faces and decided to play around with a few. Since she had a flower in her hand and I just downloaded the floral brushes I decided to just mess around a little. I originally wanted the flowers to be a part of the brick but then when i took out the brick altogether it looked way better. I sampled a color from her dress for the mai background color and chose shades of purple for the flowers since the flower she is holding is purple. Then to me she looks as though she could be a little princess daydreaming about her future prince, hence where I got the idea to write DAYDREAM and the quote "Once upon a time there was a prince..." When I was done I realized I didnt really have to do anything to her picture. I just changed the contrast slightly and that's it. I think it's perfect how it is.
After I finished I was amazed at how good it turned out. At least to me. Hopefully you all think so too!
